Job Description:

To assist the officer-in-charge of the LMNPL, i.e. the Librarian and/or the Assistant Librarians in the project of preparation for commissioning and operation of the new LMNPL.
To assist in planning and preparation for the project and monitoring its progress and its compliance with the library requirement, and to assist in the general supervision of subordinates and operation of the LMNPL before and after its opening to the public.
To assist in planning and setting up of the operation mechanism of various functional points including the customer service counter, Newspapers and Periodicals zone at different floors, guard posts, etc.
To assist in hiring of various services and acquisition of furniture, equipment and miscellaneous supplies, including drafting the specifications, communicating with suppliers to ensure the quality of goods and services and their compliance with the library requirements.
To assist in monitoring the accurate processing of library materials, including books, audio and visual materials, accompanying materials, newspapers and periodicals, etc.
To conduct preliminary literature searches to facilitate selection of library materials through websites and other sources.
To build up collection related to culture and history of Lamma Island and assist in the setting and the design of designated thematic bookshelves to promote library collection.
To oversee the work progress and staff performance in processing of library materials including books, audio and visual materials, accompanying materials, newspaper and periodicals, etc.
To handle general administrative matters, such as organizing and controlling work schedules of supporting staff (including contract staff), arranging and conducting in-service training programs, and service contract management like hire of service for shelving and end processing, cleaning, security and horticulture.
To coordinate with other libraries, sections, departments, contractors and external organizations in matters relating to the opening of the LMNPL, and to liaise with library users, school and non-government organization for promotion of library facilities and services.
To plan the mechanism to monitor its services and daily operation, to answer readers’ enquiries, and to handle any suggestions and complaints.
To prepare and coordinate the provision of various library services, including circulation, book sorting and dispatch, book drop, accompanying materials and services and facilities to the special groups.
To plan and organize library educational programs and extension activities, receive library visits and conduct school visit. To prepare information display of library events and co-ordinate library materials displays and exhibitions.
To answer enquiries and to organize pre-opening tours and opening ceremony.
To attend to service area for functions/works/incidents and assist in accident/ incident investigation; to perform shift duties and emergency duties when required, such as responding to false alarms, mosquito problem and fire drill, etc.
To prepare and coordinate the compilation of various returns, reports, statistics, notices related documents for the LMNPL.
To perform any other duties as assigned by senior officers.

Job Requirements:

A degree from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent
Possess ‘Level 3’ or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent
Be fluent in Cantonese, English and preferably Putonghua
Have preferably at least 1 year post-qualification full-time working experience and
Have good knowledge in common computer applications including MS Word, MS Excel, Chinese Word Processing, Photoshop and PowerPoint.
Have knowledge of using graphical drawing software, such as Illustrator is preferable and have experience for project management is an advantage.
