The LEGAL SERVICES MANAGER will have responsibilities that include:

    Summary/Objective
    Legal Services Manager shall provide senior management with effective advice on company operations in Asia, with focus on offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai. Legal Service Manager shall have the ability to evaluate and weigh all legal aspects and / or situation, and shall be able to provide sound solutions, with the ultimate aim of protecting the legal rights of the company. 

    Responsibilities:
    • Oversee all legal aspects of company’s operations in Asia and provide legal advice on the overall business and operational matters;
    • Ensure that the company has adhered to the constitution and by-laws as well as the laws and regulations of relevant jurisdiction;
    • Ensure that organizational legal matters are managed properly, efficiently and that the relevant and respective stakeholders are given proper advice and guidance;
    • Provide expert and strategic legal advice to the management team and ensure that the management team is provided with updates and reports on a regular basis;
    • Review and evaluate the legal risks involved in various aspects of company’s operations and share the same with the management team, apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks;
    • Draft routine contracts pertaining to employment, appointment of partners, partnerships, business to business agreements, business acquisitions, properties, non-disclosure agreements, marketing and sponsoring arrangements, contracts with service providers etc. as well as other legal documents to ensure legal conformity and minimize probability of exposure;
    • Give accurate and timely advice to the management team in a variety of legal topics (labour and immigration laws, partnerships, corporate legal matters, wills and probate etc.);
    • Review existing legal documents, identify issues and co-ordinate with the relevant internal departments (for prompt resolution on the issues within set time-frame parameters);
    • Provide legal support and guidance to partners and partners’ practices of the company in relation to their engagement with the company;
    • Oversee the wills department and provide support and guidance to its staff, when required;
    • Liaise with relevant government offices and other competent authorities, if necessary;
    • Participate in the development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures;
    • Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsels, public authorities etc.);
    • Deal with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areas;
    • Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization;
    • Conduct legal work with integrity and responsibility;
    • Attract, develop, direct, motivate and drive performance from supporting staff;
    • Meet legal objectives as set out by the management;
    • Keep abreast of legislative changes;
    • Co-ordinate other ad hoc projects;

Job Requirment

    Requirements:
    • Master’s degree in law;
    • Dually qualified solicitor: qualified in common law jurisdiction (UK qualified highly preferred) and in civil law jurisdiction (any other European qualification), current practising license holder in both jurisdictions required due to coverage of Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai;
    • Minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience in as an in-house lawyer in a business environment;
    • Experience in working in an international legal environment, previous exposure to variety of legal systems highly preferred;
    • In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organisations;
    • Overall broad legal knowledge of labour laws, company laws and business laws, wills and probate;
    • Experience in working on matters of corporate governance;
    • Experience in cooperating with external law firms as well as in supervising support staff in a corporation;
    • Proficiency in English required;
    • Strong legal and analytical skill with good business sense, ability to develop legal strategy and objectives;
    • Ability to perform/prioritize multi-tasks and to meet the deadlines;
    • Ability to work and deliver independently/proactively and good skills of teamwork;
    • Strong organizational skills;
    • Ability to anticipate legal issues or risks and to “see around the corner”;
    • High degree of professional ethics and integrity;
    • First class interpersonal and communication skills;
    • Responsible, independent, self-motivated and able to work under pressure
    • Immediately available preferred.
